About

How it all started
The Ari Project was inspired by Hyein (Ellen) Cho’s research on domestic and family violence (DFV) and the Korean diaspora. Project leads Jun Bin and Ellen met at the AMES Australia Prevention of Violence Against Women Leadership Course where they were invited as panelists in 2020. Sharing the same goal of raising awareness about domestic and family violence within the Asian-Australian community, Jun Bin and Ellen collaborated with a team of diverse local Asian-Australian talents in Victoria to transform the narrative of Ari (a pseudonym) into a three-part short film series to highlight her lived experience of DFV in Australia.

Our expectations
This project aims to highlight the resilience, capacity and agency manifested in the narrative of Ari (a Korean victim-survivor). We expect this project to shed new light on the little-recognised issues of DFV within the Korean diasporic communities and intend to make the digital resources available to the public for free to be used as training and educational materials.
